Trimming
Centering with the left hand while holding the tool in the right hand was so difficult, since I always used my right hand to tap to center the pieces for trimming.
Using Kanna/the trimming tool, which is a very different kind of tool from what I am used to. I also learned that I should trim porcelain pieces when they are drier than leather hard.
Every step is very different from what I am used to, but getting each step right makes each trimming step easier. Though Kenichiro’s demo looks so easy and effortless, we were all so frustrated at one point. We gave ourselves a little reward and went out for ice cream during the lunch break.
It is amazing that I now know the reasons for all the little problems I have always had when I threw porcelain using different techniques and tools. I was so frustrated all day, but at the same time, so grateful to learn the correct ways.
