about me
I grew up as the youngest of six in Kyoto, Japan.
I grew up in a large family. Every day, there were many incidents, conversations, and stories that instilled in me strong core values. My childhood was filled with vibrant memories of being in nature and experiencing the four distinct seasons. Each season offered a variety of colors, tastes, smells, sounds, and textures.
My inspirations are gleaned from everyday life and all the things that are around us.
Later in life, when I started traveling and living in different places outside of Japan, I became aware of the differences and similarities in how people live, their daily rituals and everyday conversations. I draw inspiration from all this.
My studio is in Echo Park, Los Angeles, California.
All the pieces are glazed and fired in my studio. Each piece is made by wheel-throwing, hand-building, or a combination of both techniques.
I mostly make functional objects for everyday use.
I also make non-practical objects for exhibitions and I do commissioned work as well. Once or twice a year, I will create a small “limited edition” — a functional or non-functional ceramic piece for sale, in addition to my standard tableware pieces.
All my tableware is food and dishwasher-safe, unless otherwise noted.
I hope my cups and bowls make ordinary moments feel more special.
