mystery pots

Inspired by Gregoire Bouillier's memoir The Mystery Guest, which begins with his invitation to French artist Sophie Calle’s birthday party — where she invited as many people as she was years old plus a “mystery guest” to symbolize the year ahead. I decided to create a collection of sixty-one pots to commemorate my own sixtieth birthday. Each pot represents one year of my life.

Even though two years have passed, I still work on the project. Now I am looking ahead to ages 63, 64, and 65. My best friend Bruno, who shares my birth year, believes that marking “non-celebratory years” (those not ending in 0 or 5) feels more fitting for this project.

For now, I’m calling this initiative the Sixty-Something Pots project.
